1976 Steve Skibel was on the new DG BMX team with Stu Thomsen
and Jeff Bottema. Steve was a pint sized mega fast racer
and with the help of his father Steve Sr. they combined efforts
on building "mini" sized bike and parts to allow Steve to have
the edge on his competition. Introducing euro bottom
brackets, alloy cranks, caliper brakes they got a bike below 20
pounds.
The February Bicycle Motocross magazine featured Steve on the
cover and his trusty mount. Steve is the youngest rider
ever to be on the cover of the mighty Bicycle Motocross Action.
The brand new DG Super Pro Junior frame features the early mini
fork that has drilled vs. stamped DG dropouts. This frame
features a built-in seat post clamp to save weight. The
Dia-Compe brake lever and caliper have been drilled to save
weight also. Combining the Sugino alloy cranks,
Stronglight alloy headset and bottom bracket, then Campy track
hubs makes for one fast machine weighing in at 19 pounds!
Myke Landis was another DG racer and his Dad modified the rear
dropout to include another allowing for a rear geometry that
suited Myke better.
